Most patients asking about a mini lift are honestly better served by a full one — in Dr. Day's experience roughly nine in ten — because the mini addresses the face without the neck. That conversation happens plainly at consultation, with your anatomy in the mirror.
Complementary procedures often join the plan: in this practice a facelift is combined with eyelid surgery in roughly six of ten cases, a lip lift in two or three of ten, and buccal fat excision in about two of ten.
What separates a facelift from everything non-surgical is the layer it works in. Creams and injectables act at or near the surface; a facelift repositions the structural layer beneath, which is where jowling and neck laxity actually originate. That is why the two are not competing options — and why no amount of the second substitutes for the first once the change is structural.

SMAS plication
The deep layer is folded and secured rather than cut, a dependable workhorse where tissue quality is good and the change needed is moderate.
SMASectomy
A strip of the deep layer is removed before closure, giving more lift than plication for faces that need it.
Deep plane
Release goes beneath the deep layer so skin and muscle move together as one unit. More dissection, more powerful repositioning of the midface and jawline.
Preservation
Repositions with minimal undermining, keeping more of the native attachments and blood supply intact.
Mid-face
Targets the cheek and the area beneath the eye, where descent shows first for some faces long before the jawline goes.
Mini / short-scar
A shorter incision and a smaller correction, appropriate for early changes — and honestly not enough for most patients who ask about it, because it leaves the neck untreated.
Is it right for you
The right time is when the changes in the mirror bother you, your health is good, and your expectations are honest: a facelift resets the foundation, and you age forward from that better starting point.
Smoking must stop four to six weeks before and after surgery, and blood thinners and certain supplements pause beforehand. If a lesser procedure would honestly serve you better, that is what Dr. Day will recommend.
Recovery
Desk work resumes during the first week, and most patients are socially comfortable by the end of week two. Exercise builds from week two at half effort, with full activity at four to six weeks.
Swelling settles progressively; the final result arrives at three to six months. Follow-ups run on the practice's standard cadence, with direct access to the clinical team between visits.

What is the SMAS, and why does it matter?
The SMAS is the muscular-fibrous layer beneath the skin. Repositioning it carries the lift; pulling skin alone produces the tight, windswept look and an early relapse. Every technique used here works at that layer.
Will I look natural?
